Welcome to the FSU Weld Prof website!
Interested in Welding?
Welding is a very useful and powerful tool that allows us to join metals in almost any shape imaginable. This site contains basic information about welding safety, welding processes and welding metallurgy. In addition, you will find helpful links to FREE information on the topic of welding. Not sure where to begin? Here are some fun facts to help you get started:
FACT #1: Did you know that welding is hazardous and can cause serious injury up to and including death? Learn about how to identify safety hazards and how to protect yourself and others here: Welding Safety
FACT #2: Not all welding processes are created equally. Learn about which process is right for your application here: Welding Processes
FACT #3: Metals react differently to the heat of welding and you should know about the materials you'll be working with. For information on the weldability of metals, click here: Welding Metallurgy
FACT #4: Welding and cutting of metal is commonly done using oxy-fuel gas processes and more modern electric arc welding processes. Oxy-fuel flames can reach temperatures of approximately 5600°F (3100°C) while an electric welding arc can generate temperatures in excess of 10,000°F (5600°C).
